We took a small boat on a tour through Lofoten’s fjords towards Trollfjord to photograph the sea eagles.  Gulls were attracted with fish and loaves of bread.  Eagles took notice and would fly in for fish thrown off the boat.  I took close to 1,000 gull and eagle pictures over the 2 hour trip; some highlights are shown below.

With a wingspan of up to 8 feet, the White-tailed Eagle (sea eagle) – is the largest bird of prey in Norway. As their name suggests, their tails are white and have a distinctive wedge shape.

Sea eagles prey mainly on fish, small mammals, and other seabirds. They build their nests in treetops or mountainsides, usually sticking to the same nest for several breeding seasons.

The Norwegian Sea Eagle is a protected species in Norway and most countries in Western Europe, and their population has rebounded significantly due to conservation efforts.
